Project Overview

Windows and Doors
for the Hudson in St. Louis

The Hudson was developed as a luxury mixed-use apartment building with a clean, modern exterior and a high-end residential character. LUVINDOW supplied a three-part window-and-door package: thermal-break aluminum tilt-and-turn windows (ALU-70), large lift-and-slide doors (ALU-152), and single-leaf outswing hinged doors (ALU-70). The package addressed operable windows, broad glazed access openings, and exterior hinged access within the same project.

A Modern Residential Character at More Than One Scale

The design direction for The Hudson centered on sleek contemporary lines, high-end curb appeal, and a residential environment in which appearance and everyday function worked together. That intention extended beyond the rhythm of the windows. The package also had to account for much larger glazed door openings and separate exterior hinged-door locations without losing the clean visual language established for the building.

The brief also linked the package to energy efficiency and year-round residential comfort. Thermal-break aluminum framing and double-pane fully tempered Low-E insulating glass with argon gas fill formed the response to that target; German-origin hardware and system-specific components addressed operation.

Carrying the Material Direction from Windows to Large Doors

At The Hudson, the aluminum-and-glass direction moved through three opening scales. Tilt-and-turn windows (ALU-70) served the operable window locations. Lift-and-slide doors (ALU-152) addressed broad glazed access openings. Single-leaf outswing hinged doors (ALU-70) completed the exterior access category.

The categories shared a material approach. Each system used hardware and operation matched to its opening role, carrying the project's clean contemporary language from residential windows to much larger door assemblies.

Tilt-and-Turn Windows

The thermal-break aluminum tilt-and-turn windows (ALU-70) combined an aluminum frame with double-pane fully tempered Low-E insulating glass, argon gas fill, German-origin hardware, and a composite spacer (Technoform-TGI). The tilt-and-turn format placed two modes of operation within one sash: a top inward tilt position for limited ventilation and a side-hinged inward turn for a wider opening.

For The Hudson, this operable window type connected practical residential use with the building's clean contemporary lines.

Dual-Action Opening

Tilt for controlled ventilation, turn for a wider opening.

Thermal Performance

Thermal-break aluminum with Low-E insulated glass and argon gas fill.

German Hardware

German-origin hardware combines reliable operation with clean contemporary lines.

Lift-and-Slide Doors

Large glazed openings required a different solution within the project. The ALU-152 thermal-break aluminum lift-and-slide system combined expansive glass with smooth operation and a clean, modern appearance.

  • Large glazed openings for broader views and natural light
  • German-origin hardware for smooth, effortless operation
  • Low-E insulating glass with argon gas fill for improved thermal performance

Single-Leaf Outswing Hinged Doors

The ALU-70 thermal-break aluminum outswing doors provided secure and practical exterior access while maintaining the project’s clean aluminum-and-glass design.

  • Single-leaf outswing design for straightforward exterior access
  • German-origin hardware with multi-point locking for security and durability
  • Low-E insulating glass with argon gas fill for improved thermal performance

Planning a Mixed-Use Window-and-Door Package

For a new mixed-use package combining operable windows, large lift-and-slide doors, and exterior hinged doors, useful review inputs include architectural elevations, system and opening schedules, large-door dimensions, door handing, glazing and finish requirements, and target delivery dates.

Within the agreed scope, LUVINDOW can review how those systems are assigned, prepare product shop drawings, carry confirmed configurations through production and quality-control follow-through, organize protective packing, plan logistics for the different assembly sizes, and provide product-specific installation documents or guidance. The approved quotation and project documents establish the final supply and service boundaries.
